ENROLMENT SCHEME

To avoid overcrowding Auroa School has been instructed to implement an enrolment scheme.  The scope of the scheme is outlined below.  The scheme is governed in terms of Section 11PA of the Education Act 1989 by the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education.

The school accepts out of zone students at the beginning of each term.  Advertisements for out of zone students will be advertised by week 5 of each term, and a decision made by week 8.  Families will be notified  by the Friday of week 9 for each term, indicating their child can enrol in the following term.

In addition, in Term 2 the school will advertise for OOZ students in week 1, with applications closing on June the 1st.

Each year,  applications for enrolments in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date in Term 4, which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.  This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

HOME ZONE

All students who live within the home zone described below (located on the school website) shall be entitled to enrol at the school, without having to apply.  Those outside this area will need to fill out an Out of Zone application form when enrolling their children.

All properties with direct access to the following roads and/or specified portions of roads are in zone.  Both sides of roads are in zone unless otherwise stated.

Below is a diagram of our enrolment zone.

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS

Each term the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following term for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.  The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date which all applications must be received.

In a situation where there may be more applicants applying for enrolment than there have been positions advertised, applications for enrolments will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority will be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school.

Second Priority will be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.

Third Priority will be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.

Fourth Priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

Fifth Priority will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11 G (1) of the Education Act 1989.  Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

Students who have not been chosen through ballot will be placed on a waiting list, and notified when a position becomes available.
